Disappointment is
the feeling of failure of expectations or hopes to manifest. It is one of the
life's most common experiences when life fails to satisfy expectations. Life is
unpredictable and things do not always work out as planned.
I think, we all experience disappointment sometimes in
relationships, sometimes in poor job evaluations or test scores, death of a
loved one, health challenges etc.
People shows different behaviors when they meet
disappointment.
Some will respond it by becoming motivated to do better
next time and they can easily bounce back from the disappointments of their
life.
Others want to give up because it hurts the spirit and
soul. Whenever we have disappointed by not receiving our expectation or goals
we want to go into a shell or hide it from the world. I can say that
disappointments can be very frustrating when we are trying to achieve our goal
or a dream of our life and we don’t want to expect anything good anymore from
anyone. Therefore our confidence continuing to die daily, due to this we feel
like there isn’t anything to be positive in our life.
I have also
noticed that whatever is the situation most of the people smile and pretend
like they are happy with their life but deep inside their heart they are angry,
sad and disgusted by their disappointments in their life. The reason of their
smile is that they don’t want other people to know what they feel inwardly.
Moreover there are many people around us who are happy but they are very good
at hiding their true feelings around other people.
Dealing
with disappointment is a challenging skill to deal effectively with themselves
and others in life. All you need is to let go of the past, be positive and begin to
feel hopeful about the future. Following are the tips which may be helpful for you to bounce
back from the feeling of disappointment.
1. You
should accept the situation. Accept that disappointment is a normal part of
life and if you try to avoid being disappointed, you will have a more difficult
time and you will not be able to get through it.
2. You
must understand where you stand emotionally. It can help you to tackle with
your moods, thoughts, confidence and self esteem.
3. Talk
to your close-friend or relative, they can guide you through the recovery
process in a safe and supportive environment. Sharing is a fast-healing process
and it is also important for good mental health.
4. Look
for positive activities where you can recharge yourself.
5. You
must change the way looking at your disappointment.
6. The
good thing about disappointment is that it gives us a lesson in life.
7. Don't
give up. Think about what you have learned from other disappointments. Recall
and identify what you gained and learned from each experience.
8. Try
to figure out whether your expectations are realistic or not.
9. Identify
the activities you most enjoy doing in your life, writing in your personal
journal, playing games, walking in the park, watching a happy movie or talking
to positive friends, do whatever makes you feel better.
10. Sometimes
spending time alone might be the best way for you to clear out your mental
clutter and regain your personal energy.
I never take disappointment very seriously but when I am
disappointed I pretend myself as I am very happy but deep inside my heart I
feel very sad and angry. The reason of my smile is that I don’t want others to
know about my feelings. But to overcome this situation, I find that a
combination of activities including blogging, talking with my friends and
spending time with my kids helps me to overcome disappointments and these
things help me to lift up from lower state of mind to a higher level.

I really enjoyed reading your post, it has lots of positive tips for handling disappointment, some of which I could really benefit from. When I am disappointed, I try to think positively, not dwell so much on the situation, write stories, poetry and blogs and believe it or not, I sing. This is my way of 'therapizing' myself (I created that word, lol).

Very positive article! It has inspiring key points. When I am disappointed I start praying a lot. It helps me built my connection to God & also makes my believe stronger on the creator of this universe. Also praying reminds me that everything happens for a reason and this is the thought that gets me moving ahead each time!

ReplyDeleteIt seems ironic since I was disappointed today for not getting an internship I was depending on to help me pay my tuition. However, I did get a peer mentoring position. I was sooo sad and blamed myself, but I'll get through it. All I should do is keep on proving that I have what it takes to be successful! Congrats on winning blog of the day :)

DeleteGreat Article! That is so true. The simplest way to move on is to accept your mistake, learn from it and move on. But sometimes it's hard to let go. What I do is talk it out with my loved ones. And when I am unable to do that then yoga and meditation helps.
